The Council of Europe to express a clear view on the organized campaign to undermine the institution of the National Assembly of Serbia

The National Assembly of Serbia was prevented from discussing the budget, which denied the citizens the right to participate in the decision-making process through the elected representatives on how the money they earned is spent.

We urge the Council of Europe to express a clear view of the consciously organized campaign to undermine the Serbian Parliament, executed through abuse of the rights of MPs of the ruling majority, who submitted a large number of pointless amendments, and thus wasted the time to discuss essential issues. All of those amendments were subsequently pulled, proving that the aim of this behavior was to sabotage the work of the National Assembly of Serbia, rather than to improve the draft law submitted by the Government.

We call on the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, not to sign the Budget Law for 2018, and to return it to the Parliament. By preventing the debates of the assembly is an act that undermines parliamentary democracy and implements de facto coup d’etat!
